New AMD Ryzen Mini PCs on the Market

Recently there’s been some exciting news about AMD Ryzen processors finally finding their way into mini PCs. While Intel has been doing great progress on improving their integrated GPUs, it’s AMD that currently manufactures more affordable CPUs with better integrated GPU.

The first announced model is Asrock DeskMini A300, which is a very inexpensive barebone PC.

The DeskMini A300 costs a very reasonable $150 and for that investment you get a custom case that measures 155mm wide, 155mm deep and 80mm tall. It’s capable of housing two 2.5” storage devices and up to a 46mm tall CPU cooler. Inside you’ll find Asrock’s A300M-STX motherboard which measures just 140 x 147mm. […] Front I/O includes a USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-C port along with a Type-A and around the back there’s an additional two USB ports, a 3.1 Gen1 Type-A and a 2.0 Type-A. There’s a basic Realtek audio and Gigabit network solution, three M.2 ports, two for an SSDs and a third for a Wi-Fi module and then two laptop-style memory DIMMs supporting up to DDR4-2933 with Ryzen APUs. The second model is HP ProDesk 405 G4, which is equipped with AMD Ryzen Pro CPU.

Measuring 177×175×34 mm and weighing 1.26 kilograms, HP’s ProDesk 405 G4 is among the most compact desktop computers based on AMD’s Ryzen available today. The machine can pack AMD’s quad-core Ryzen 5 Pro 2400 GE processor with Radeon Vega 11 graphics that can be paired with up to 32 GB of DDR4 memory, an M.2 PCIe/NVMe SSD and a 2.5-inch HDD. […] Connectivity-wise, the ProDesk 405 G4 provides an 802.11ac + Bluetooth controller (from Intel or Realtek), a gigabit ethernet port, six USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, a DisplayPort 1.2 with MST, and optional connectors (including USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C, HDMI 2.0, D-Sub, Serial, etc.) based on the specific sub-model. There’s also been an announcement of a fanless low power, low performance solution. Vnopn K1 houses AMD A6-1450, a processor from 2013.

The K1 measures 15.7 x 10.7 x 2.5 cm but packs a quad-core processor that can clock up to 1.4 GHz and up to 8 GB RAM. The machine comes with up to a 256 GB SSD too and cools itself passively thanks to its 8 W TDP processor, so it runs silently. You can connect the K1 to an external monitor via its VGA or HDMI ports, but Vnopn has also included two USB 3.0 Type-A and four USB 2.0 Type-A ports for connecting peripherals like external storage and other devices.
